About the Creator
I'm a lifelong reader with a deep commitment to the kind of thinking that literature invites: careful, complex, and often unfinished. As a PhD candidate in English at York University (with a BA and MA from the University of Toronto ... yes, I've spent way too many years thinking about books professionally), my background bridges scholarship, creative writing, and literary mentorship, and I've built Readist to share that intersection with others.
I hold advanced degrees in literature and have spent over a decade researching narrative theory, apocalypse, and myth in both English and Japanese traditions. My academic work focuses on how stories shape our understanding of crisis, change, and the self. My current project is a comparative analysis of Japanese and American narratives of creation and destruction, which sounds apocalyptic but is actually endlessly fascinating. I've been lucky enough to present my work at institutions across North America and Europe, including at the Institute of World Literature at Harvard University, and I've taught university-level courses and worked with students, writers, and independent thinkers at every stage of their literary life.
Based in Hamilton, Ontario, I believe in the power of books not just to inform, but to transform—slowly, subtly, and often without conclusion. This site is my attempt to make space for that kind of reading, and to connect with others who crave more than a quick take or tidy summary.
Whether you're studying, returning to reading after a long break, or simply want a more intentional practice, you're welcome here. Readist is a project rooted in generosity, rigor, and curiosity—and I'm glad you're part of it.
