Privacy Policy

The Readist is a personal project operated from Ontario, Canada. This policy explains what information is collected when you visit the site, subscribe to the newsletter, or use mentorship services, and how that information is handled.

Information collected

Information you provide

• Email address — when you subscribe to the newsletter via MailerLite or contact The Readist at hello@readist.ca
• Name and message content — when you reach out by email
• Payment information — when you purchase mentorship services, processed securely by Stripe. The Readist does not store your credit card details.

Information collected automatically

• Analytics data — The site uses Google Analytics 4 (GA4) to collect anonymized usage data including pages visited, approximate location (country/region), device type, and referral source. This helps understand how the site is used and improve its content.
• Theme preference — Your light/dark mode selection is stored in your browser's local storage. This data stays on your device and is not transmitted to any server.

Third-party services

The Readist uses the following third-party services, each with their own privacy policies:

• Google Analytics 4 — Website analytics. Google may set cookies to distinguish users and track sessions. Google Privacy Policy
• MailerLite — Newsletter delivery and subscription management. When you subscribe, your email address is stored by MailerLite. MailerLite Privacy Policy

• Google Fonts — Typefaces are loaded from Google's servers, which may log your IP address. Google Privacy Policy

How your information is used

Personal information collected through The Readist is used only for the following purposes:

• Delivering the newsletter you subscribed to
• Responding to messages and inquiries
• Processing payments for mentorship services
• Understanding site usage to improve content and experience

Your information is never sold, rented, or shared with third parties for marketing purposes.

Cookies

The site may set cookies through Google Analytics to distinguish unique visitors and track sessions. These are used solely for analytics purposes. No advertising cookies are used.

You can control cookies through your browser settings. Disabling cookies will not affect your ability to browse the site.

Newsletter and email (CASL compliance)

The Readist complies with Canada's Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL). Newsletter emails are sent only to people who have explicitly opted in by subscribing through the site. Every email includes an unsubscribe link, and requests to unsubscribe are processed promptly by MailerLite.

If you wish to unsubscribe, you can use the link in any newsletter email or contact hello@readist.ca directly.

Data retention

• Newsletter subscribers — Your email is retained by MailerLite until you unsubscribe
• Analytics data — Retained by Google Analytics according to their default retention settings
• Payment records — Retained by Stripe as required for transaction records and applicable tax law
• Email correspondence — Retained as needed to maintain the conversation or relationship

Your rights

Under the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and applicable Canadian privacy law, you have the right to:

• Know what personal information is held about you
• Request correction of inaccurate information
• Request deletion of your personal information
• Withdraw consent for the collection or use of your information
